December 18, 1998|
GREEN BAY, WI, Dec. 18, 1998 — The scientific association dedicated to analytical excellence has accepted for publication a new method for measuring amounts of carotenoids and vitamins A and E in multivitamin tablets. The Association of Official Analytical Chemists (AOAC) will publish the original research by Dr. Jidong Sun, a clinical research scientist with Enzymatic Therapy. Dr. Sun developed a process which uses High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC).
The article entitled, "Liquid Chromatographic Determination of Carotenoids and Vitamins A and E in Multivitamin Tablets" will appear in the January/February issue of the Journal of AOAC International. It describes a method for simultaneously measuring the popular antioxidant vitamins typically found in many multivitamins. The method is considered an improvement over current procedures which are complex and require seasoned operators as well as numerous resources. Dr. Sun’s article describes his new method as, "simple, sensitive, and easy to use."
In view of the article’s acceptance by AOAC, the new method is expected to have a considerable impact on the industry. Supplement use has grown dramatically over the last 10 years and currently enjoys a healthy popularity with the public. Consequently, Dr. Sun’s research can help to ensure the quality of multivitamins produced by manufacturers that test their products.
"This is another example of our company’s commitment to scientific advancement, while benefiting the entire supplement industry in the process," said Matt Schueller, Senior Vice President of Scientific Affairs for the Wisconsin natural medicines company.
